picking up pieces of your life

2 07 2011

hey!

i know… 3 years, eh? 3 years since i was last here… and i never missed you… not one bit… you see, with all the new bloggers out there out to prove themselves to their readers, they forgot one thing: putting their hearts to whatever they write. i was the same as them at one time, and that is why i decided to just up and leave blogging altogether.

the commercialism, the hunt for freebies (free donuts from the biggest donut chain even delivered at home, free movie tickets from a Makati mall delivered at the office, free cellphones, and other tech stuff that i never really had a need for), the hunt for fame (the 1st and only Blog Awards, i think), etc etc… i hated it… for me, blogging was supposed to have been a simple journal of my daily grind. but enough about that. now, i am back, and doing what i loved most: talking about what really interest me, without all the fame and money attached to it…

well, where was i the past 3 years?

been working, of course… worked with an international school (no, not the International School, doofus), and then moved on a big BPO-cum-consulting company for about 6 months… jobless since late March this year… also, during those times, played about 2 MMORPGs, renewed my love for coffee with a big coffee house which will remain nameless, made some lifelong friends, got Dagul, my big black Mitsubishi Strada, had another child October of last year, and now, estranged (separated, whatever) with my wife of 5 years… that’s about it…

and now, am still trying to find a job… so, where am i at now?

  • trying my hand again at amateur photography. contacted a photographer-friend from a previous work and asked if i could come along during one of his shoots… unfortunately, his specialty are weddings which isnt really my style… but i’d go along for the experience… another friend and i talked about something that isn’t yet popular here in the PHL but is in other countries. will tell you more once it is off the ground…
  • been (re)teaching myself Linux again, since i went to the dark side during those 3 years… not that i totally distanced myself from it, but i worked using MS more than Linux. now that i am back to consulting (more about that later), i will feel better equipped if i re-learn it once more. i know the learning curve wouldn’t be that steep, so i am immersing myself into it…
  • another colleague from way back has offered me a consulting job with their company on a per-project basis… and he is now currently finalizing talks with a potential client before i come in…

i still have about 2 or 3 more things i’d like to talk about in here, but i feel that if i do, it will just complicate matters more… they are complicated enough as it is… once these 3 are kind of solved already, i will tell you about them… but for now, that is it…

i may not be able to do this on a per-day basis… but tell you what: i have this little project in mind that will let me see you at least once a day… again, i will tell you about that once i got all the kinks out…

what else? nada mรกs (that is ‘nothing else’ in Spanish :D)

oh wait, i will be putting my own bucket list here very soon… watch out for that ๐Ÿ™‚

ciao… ๐Ÿ˜Ž

a park that is not like a typical Pinoy park…

15 07 2007

(c)

clean… safe… fun… bright… unpolluted… well-kept…

normally, you would not equate these adjectives to a government-run park… but yesterday morning saw the wife and I over at Quezon Memorial Circle, and we experienced all of these, and more, at the park… why were we there? there was this food-writing workshop which will be held at Serye inside the Circle… we were early, so we decided to take a stroll around the park, or at least a part of it…

from the parking lot, which was very well-kept and cheap at P15 for the whole day of parking, we walked within the Circle… from the scenes we saw, one can do anything within the park [long as it’s legal, of course], as well as participate in the events the park offers…

there were street and ballroom dancing, team-building activities, massage services, and a host of other activities going on while we were walking around… i was thinking to bring my 1-year old son here and just let him have a run of the place… ๐Ÿ˜€

you into biking? or running? or simply strolling around a nice, clean and safe place? then, maybe, the Quezon City Memorial Circle is the place for you… i know i’d be back just to hang loose…

Ciao, sweetie…

a bad experience over at Gerry’s Grill

27 04 2007

(c)

[reprinted from Kubiertos]

our HR manager last week decided to take us other managers out for lunch today… we decided to eat at Gerry’s Grill in Libis… and so, at about 11:30 today, all 4 of us bundled ourselves in a car and headed out for Libis… little did we know that this will be the biggest error we will do today…

anyway, after getting there, we found a nice parking slot, a nice location inside where it was cool, we ordered Pork and Tuna Sisig, Crispy Pata, Laing, rice, and drinks all around… the drinks came first, as usual, and we settled down and waited for the rest of the food to come… a little later, a group of 5 women came in, ordered, and similarly waited for their food… and so, we talked about everything and anything, until the conversation turned to food and restaurants… about 20 minutes into the conversation, i suddenly realized that the women already had their table set and were starting to eat… i looked over and saw that they ordered the same things we did, sisig and crispy pata, and that’s when i remarked “naku, if i ever find out that they forgot about my order, i’ll just up and leave without paying for anything…” and that’s when the HR manager decided to confront the waiters of the restaurant…

they told us that, because their printer allegedly was broken, they got the orders mixed up, and OUR orders are now lost… uh, again?? what do you mean lost?? you mean, we need to order and go through the whole process again?? at that, we got out of our seats and left the establishement without paying for our drinks [at my recommendation, the drinks costing about P200]…

it is very easy to blame technology, but in the end, it is still the users of these systems who need to be responsible for their output… they could have just used pen and paper [which they did] and bring the list to the kitchen without bothering to use any kind of printer… if they simply told us that “they’re very sorry it has to happen to us” plus, probably, a free something to go along with it to show that they were really contrite, we could’ve waited… but as it was, all we got were bad looks from the waiters when we got up to leave…

and since we were still totally famished by then, we decided to just go to Pier1 in J. Vargas in Ortigas, where we ordered the same food we wanted over at Gerry’s at less time [10 minutes], and a much colder environment [i can smoke inside, which is a very big plus for them]… at the end, we paid about P1, 400 inclusive of service charge and other taxes, which is P1,400 less from what Gerry’s Grill was supposed to report at the end of the day… it was totally their loss, not ours…

and because we were all famished by then, i wasn’t able to take pictures of the sisigs by the time they were brought to our table… all i was able to take a picture of were the extra garlic rice, laing, and some of the crispy pata…

i wouldn’t be caught dead in that branch of Gerry’s after this experience…

those damned C5/Libis traffic lights

11 04 2007

(n)

dammit!! :[

who is/are supposed to be responsible for those damned traffic lights along C5 and Libis?? the MMDA?? the local Ortigas and/or Quezon City governments?? fuck!! someone should take them down!! they’re useless, anyway!!

i almost got into a traffic accident this afternoon because of one of these traffic lights which, although working, aren’t really used along that route, a clueless driver of a closed van, and a stupid driver of an FX taxi!! [so sorry for all these exclamations marks… i really am livid until now… sheessshhh…]…

so, i just came from IBM Plaza in Libis and was en route to Makati to pick up my wife… i was cruising along the outer lane [all alone in front, and the nearest was about 50 meters behind] and about 100 meters away in the middle lane was the closed van immediately followed by the FX… if you’ve driven along that road, you already know by now that you don’t have to break and stop when those useless things turn red… apparently, the clueless driver of the closed van doesn’t and the stupid FX driver does… you can just imagine what happened next…

:s the van stopped, the FX almost didn’t, not expecting the van to stop because of that traffic light, and immediately swerved to his left to avoid the van… apparently, again, he wasn’t looking in his left side mirror while doing this, and he almost slammed into me, right at the front passenger door of my car!! i at once slammed on the accelerator [if i didn’t, he might have hit me then], and when i was free, slammed on the brakes this time… got out of the car, and berated the FX taxi driver for not looking!! and all he can do was blame the clueless van driver!! asshole!! gggrrrrrrrrrrr!!

[somebody stop me, please before i pop a blood vessel!! please!!!!!!]

back to the rant…

and so, as i was saying, someone should take responsibility for that and take those dang traffic lights-accident-waiting-to-happen down before someone just accidentally hits someone else due to a misread of a light… [goodness, i can’t stop!!]

sige na, para matapos na ito, tanggaling na mga putanginang yan!!

aaarrrrgggghhhhh!!

crossposted in Kubiertos

was mildly surprised early this morning [about 8:30am] when a messenger came to the house looking specifically for me… when i went to the door to see what it was about, krispy_kreme-747709.jpgi was further surprised when the guy was reaching into a plastic bag for 2 boxes of Krispy Kreme‘s… i thought that the wife wanted to surprise me and decided to buy me donuts [why? donuts, though? i don’t like sweet eats] and have it delivered to the house… and then, the messenger pulled out a piece of paper out of an envelope and handed it to me along with the boxes of donuts… it turned out to be a letter from Krispy Kreme’s PR Blooey Singson… part of the letter says:

shabe ng di ako lasheng e…

16 03 2007

(b) hic!!

i never was much of a drinker… in fact, i never drink alcoholic beverages at all!! but then again, most of my high school friends will immediately dispute this fact if they ever get to read this [good thing they don’t]… yes, i was a drinker during my high school day, most especially during my senior year… all 12 of us will go to a random friend’s house, buy about 6 of those tall bottles of Tanduay, and get really blasted… and we do that almost everyday… you can call it peer pressure, but that was a time in my life that i was totally disgusted with myself…

during college, i became so sober AA would have been so proud of me… i never touched the stuff even if the incentives were so tempting… like that time where my friends even had a serving girl dress really really suggestive [read: slutty], and she told me that i can bring her home if i will just drink… hahaha!! no shit!! later on, though i didn’t drink, i still got to bring her home… nyehehe… but don’t tell my wife…

and i remained true [or stupid, however you look at it] to myself… and i still am… that is, until last night…

the wife and i went on a date since it was payday yesterday, and because it had been a long time since we had dinner just by ourselves… and went to our most favorite spot in all of Greenbelt 2, BUBBA GUMP… it has been our habit never to order the same food twice whenever the wife and i go out, for the simple fact that we want to try out different dishes… and because we need new materials for a food blog that we maintain… ๐Ÿ˜€

imgp4808.jpganyway, Apples ordered The Ultimate Combo [Flat Iron Steak and Skewered Shrimps with coleslaw and mashed potatos] for herself, and i ordered Lt Dan’s Drunken Shrimp [Tender Shrimp in Spicy Bourbon Sauce] for me… not knowing that i’d regret that choice later on… […more about the food here…]

don’t get me wrong, though… if we are talking about taste, Bubba Gump has one of the tastes in food that i totally adore… spicy, garlicky, fried, grilled… name it, they have it… i regretted having the Drunken Shrimp simply because of the effect it had on me…

i got drunk!!

i thought that Bourbon Sauce is just a sauce they called Bourbon Sauce… apparently, it is a sauce spiked with Bourbon!! and that was my undoing… i was halfway in the meal when i suddenly felt lightheaded, my temples were throbbing, and i had a great need to lie down, close my eyes, and go to sleep for a long time… i can’t think straight, nor can i walk straight while going to the car later on… my headache got worse while we were travelling, and i slept for a little while in the process… later that evening when i almost [almost!!] have my bearings right, i told my wife: “sweetie, next time we eat there, please remind me not to get that again, ok??”

and my wife just knowingly smirked…

bitch… :s
