picking up pieces of your life

2 07 2011

hey!

i know… 3 years, eh? 3 years since i was last here… and i never missed you… not one bit… you see, with all the new bloggers out there out to prove themselves to their readers, they forgot one thing: putting their hearts to whatever they write. i was the same as them at one time, and that is why i decided to just up and leave blogging altogether.

the commercialism, the hunt for freebies (free donuts from the biggest donut chain even delivered at home, free movie tickets from a Makati mall delivered at the office, free cellphones, and other tech stuff that i never really had a need for), the hunt for fame (the 1st and only Blog Awards, i think), etc etc… i hated it… for me, blogging was supposed to have been a simple journal of my daily grind. but enough about that. now, i am back, and doing what i loved most: talking about what really interest me, without all the fame and money attached to it…

well, where was i the past 3 years?

been working, of course… worked with an international school (no, not the International School, doofus), and then moved on a big BPO-cum-consulting company for about 6 months… jobless since late March this year… also, during those times, played about 2 MMORPGs, renewed my love for coffee with a big coffee house which will remain nameless, made some lifelong friends, got Dagul, my big black Mitsubishi Strada, had another child October of last year, and now, estranged (separated, whatever) with my wife of 5 years… that’s about it…

and now, am still trying to find a job… so, where am i at now?

  • trying my hand again at amateur photography. contacted a photographer-friend from a previous work and asked if i could come along during one of his shoots… unfortunately, his specialty are weddings which isnt really my style… but i’d go along for the experience… another friend and i talked about something that isn’t yet popular here in the PHL but is in other countries. will tell you more once it is off the ground…
  • been (re)teaching myself Linux again, since i went to the dark side during those 3 years… not that i totally distanced myself from it, but i worked using MS more than Linux. now that i am back to consulting (more about that later), i will feel better equipped if i re-learn it once more. i know the learning curve wouldn’t be that steep, so i am immersing myself into it…
  • another colleague from way back has offered me a consulting job with their company on a per-project basis… and he is now currently finalizing talks with a potential client before i come in…

i still have about 2 or 3 more things i’d like to talk about in here, but i feel that if i do, it will just complicate matters more… they are complicated enough as it is… once these 3 are kind of solved already, i will tell you about them… but for now, that is it…

i may not be able to do this on a per-day basis… but tell you what: i have this little project in mind that will let me see you at least once a day… again, i will tell you about that once i got all the kinks out…

what else? nada mรกs (that is ‘nothing else’ in Spanish :D)

oh wait, i will be putting my own bucket list here very soon… watch out for that ๐Ÿ™‚

ciao… ๐Ÿ˜Ž

COMELEC under fire for drug test requirement

30 03 2007

(c)

the Commission on Elections [COMELEC] is now requiring all candidates for local and national posts to undergo drug testing as mandated by a 2004 COMELEC Resolution… the COMELEC is giving candidates until today to submit their drug test certificates…

Section 4 of the resolution said that no candidate who wins a seat will be able to assume the position until they submit a drug test certificate, but it doesn’t say anything regarding any penalty if the drug test certificate shows that the candidate is using illegal substance or other performance enhancing drugs…

but Atty Romulo Macalintal is saying that this is against the Philippine Constitution… according to Atty Mac, the Constitution says that drug testing is mandatory only for all winning candidates, or after the May 14 elections… but COMELEC chairman Benjamin Abalos is very adamant about this, saying that all candidates who fails to submit the certificate will be disqualified…

i just hope Abalos and all his cronies in the COMELEC faithfully follow the letter of their own resolution and bar any candidate-winner from assuming a seat if they don’t have a drug test certificate AND everyone found using illegal substances… this, most especially for all candidates coming from the movie industry running for public offices…

i am not saying that all celebrities are using drugs, but knowing the lifestyle of these actors and actresses, i wouldn’t be [very much] surprised if some candidates are barred from assuming office, or even from running altogether…

breaking news: anti-terror bill now final

6 03 2007

(c)

the Anti-Terrorism Bill or the Human Security Act of 2007 is now final although it is set to be really final 2 months after the May 14 elections… the law, signed today by Gloria Arroyo, is meant to bring the country’s succesful campaign against Abu Sayyaf, Jemaah Islamiya and Al Qaeda cells in the country…

from the Inguirer.net news site:

Earlier on Tuesday, Arroyo said the bill was a “landmark in the battle against evil waged by freedom-loving Filipinos and allies in the world.

Our message to the world is to have no safe haven for terrorist in our country,” she said in her speech at the 15th Annual Convention of the Provincial Board Members League of the Philippines at the Century Park Hotel in Manila.

several notable items within the bill are the following:

  • suspected terrorists can only be detained a maximum of 3 days,
  • a prison term of 40 years if convicted,
  • any person wrongfully detained can collect P500K in damages per day of detention, and;
  • extraordinary rendition is now banned without court approval

we have yet to see it’s final effects, so let us just wait and hold our comments until we do…

Eddie Gil who??

27 02 2007

(c)

eddiegil.jpg do you remember who Eddie Gil is?? if you are old enough to remember, Gil, a known Ferdinand Marcos loyalist, run for the 2004 presidentail elections, supposedly an international banker and purportedly a billionaire?? still doesn’t ring a bell?? ok, for the clincher… he was the one who promised that he will make every Filipino a millionaire and that he will pay the country’s debts which amounts to trillions of dollars out of his own pocket!! [heard in the background: ahhhh, ok, now i remember him…] yes, that Eddie Gil…

one more bit of trivia: he was the one who recorded that atrocious song, Pelukang Itim and made a film out of it, too…

anyway, in 2005, he was sued by the COMELEC for falsification of public documents, and right after, went to the US to maybe to hide from authorities… and now, he is reportedly going around the world, and that he is only waiting for the right time to come back and implement his plans of getting the Philippine economy up… he already has the plans laid out, and the only thing missing is the correct implementation, according to him…

can you believe this guy?? if you do, have you got your head straight?? ๐Ÿ˜€

having 2nd thoughts now, Manny boy??

26 02 2007

๐Ÿ˜€

this is sweet…

according to todays news, Manny Pacquiao is now having second thoughts whether he’d push through with his intentions of running for congressman of his home province… this is because when he went to one of his sorties in his hometown, he was coldly received by fans who, previously, were screaming simply by the sight of him… hahahaha… that is really so sweet…

so, do you believe us now?? you are a boxer, and a boxer you should stay… don’t ever go into politics if you want to maintain your popularity, Manny boy…

according to Makati mayor Jejomar Binay:

boss, Congress yan… ano naman gagawin mo sa Congress??

but he is still not closing his doors in running for Congress… he said that, anyway, he has less time left for him to file his candidacy since he is bound for the US to train for his fight in May…

suggestion, Pareng Manny?? leave the politics to trapos and concentrate on your chosen craft instead… ok??

running for Congress at this point is like doing a Neil Crespi
